A Generation Of Men Raised By Women

“We are a generation of men raised by women” Arguably the most powerful quote from the movie Fight Club. So what did Tyler Durden mean when he said that? Traditionally when a man and woman would get married, they would stay together. For life---not this Mickey Mouse I love you, I hate you, screw you we’re getting a divorce business that is tragically so common today. Ask any psychologist specializing in the study of children and they will undoubtedly inform you that for a child to have a healthy upbringing he/she requires to be raised in a household by BOTH parents who will shower him/her with love and compassion. Since the dawn of civilization the model for family structure has been patriarchal, and this kept the divorce rate in check.

Fast forward to today and what do we see?--A Matriarchal model where women believe that they should be leading the family because they were raised by a single mom who taught them that they have to fend for themselves. And the man in the relationship doesn’t know how to lead it because he is sitting around licking his own balls because he too was raised by a single mom and is tired of being “controlled” by women, and ultimately bails on the relationship—perpetuating the viscous cycle. You aren’t being controlled by anyone tough guy....you are just lazy. Women are not to blame, you are buddy. Is it any surprise that the divorce rate is at its current abominable level, of course not! In the 50’s and 60’s if your mother said to you “Wait until your father gets home” you’d have pissed your pants because that was the ultimate threat. Today, mothers have become more disciplinary than fathers, and this is all too frequently depicted in the media as well. Many movies and television shows depict a confident, capable mother and a totally incompetent oaf of a father—Just look at Peter Griffin from Family Guy or Homer Simpson from The Simpsons, and compare them to their respective counterparts Lois and Marge. Who really wears the pants here boys?

There was a time when men would hold meetings in the town square, men only. These meetings were designed to generate business, provide mentoring, and support. Society has evolved negatively where leadership roles are no longer assumed—the lines are blurred, granted there is some good in this but this article is focusing on the negative effects on men when they allow themselves to become emasculated. In early civilizations men were the hunters, travelling in packs, leading society in a dignified manner fulfilling the needs of society.  Get off the couch boys, become the men that you were supposed to be. Work with your woman to move your family forward.

One of the important factors in taking control of your life is taking control of your image. If you dress well you will build and regain confidence. For excellent tips on this topic visit the Metropolitan.

The pussification of America continues at a pace that is breathtaking. Men pay more attention to what they feel about ideas instead of what they think of them. One is based on emotions the other is rooted in beliefs. I don't give a damn who's offended. Have a drink and try to get over it.

This article is entirely wrong. You seem to have missed the point. It's a generation of men raised by women, meaning there is no such thing as masculine roles anymore. Men are raised at an early age to "treat women like princesses and give them anything they want" and this is what fuels the vicious cycle. You have men who have become unattractive and so utterly useless now.

Yes indeed, we live in a society of men raised by women. Womens liberation turned from women accepting power to desalinating men so they are more like women. I'm sick of winning, sniveling, momma's boys. No more rights of passage, no more "suck it up", now it's about safety, unearned praise, and "do you have a bo bo?" Men: If ...there are any of you out there. Find a male child and raise him as a man. --Doug

Society's emasculated us by never making us into real men to begin with. We have to raise ourselves and eachother to become men. I'm decades behind.

Au contraire. Men raised by women are stronger and more masculine. Most of my friends and I are raised by our moms due to fathers left, dead, in a war, etc. The lack of a masculine component in the household forces us to take up responsibility and face the world at a much earlier age to replace the non-existent father as "the man of the house". I for one am proud of being part of a fatherless generation.

Great article! A lot of truth to the fact that many men have not played a central role and we have suffered for it.

Hasn't this completely missed the point of the fight club quote? And who are these feminine men you speak of anyway?

Men and women has its own way of dealing certain things in a certain level. I don't see any problem if women or men reigns.

I believe is time for male to start a revolution, where boys are raised to be men and not the travesty idea females have of their ideal male. Men needs to raise above and beyond the feminisation of our school districts and the stereotype of male proposed by the media. (Everybody loves Raymond). We need to teach respect towards adults, no the idea of parents being friends with their kids and being treat like equals. Is time to take control of this now before we have a generation full of mediocre and not driven so call men!!
